Making Training Stick

Why can’t learners do on the job what they did during training?  Get the answers to that common lament as you learn to overcome the forces that interfere with training transfer.

The discover and discuss the common elements of training that DO stick so that learners use what they learn on the job.  You'll leave this session with proven techniques you can use to increase the pay-off from training when you improve the transfer of the learning experience back on the job.  Techniques include:

1.   Sharing your best practices with others.

2.   Building in techniques before, during and after training to increase learning, retention and transfer.

3.   Leveraging and maximizing your efforts.

Presenter:  As a longtime trainer, Carolyn has started, assessed, and resolved training and performance needs for numerous organizations, which means she has also designed, delivered and evaluated training programs, written on flipcharts, collated binders, and used a remote control for a PowerPoint presentation too many times to mention.  Carolyn is particularly focused on providing relevant training solutions that fit the audiences’ needs and that deliver information in a way that sticks and transfers to the job.

As an internal practitioner, Carolyn's experience includes starting and managing training functions in the Bay Area for financial services companies, a biomedical manufacturing, and two non-profit organizations.  In addition to working independently, as an external consultant, Carolyn has delivered presentation skills training for Decker Communications and is currently involved with career-transition workshops for Lee Hecht Harrison.  Carolyn is also a UC Berkeley Extension Instructor and has presented at numerous conferences.

Away from the world of training, Carolyn is coach for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program and serves as their National Hike Program Advisor.
